Here at Forward Equine, we are proud to be one of the few practices in Wisconsin to utilize technology in our lameness exams.
The Equinosis Lameness Locator, or the “Q”, is a real-time diagnostic tool to assist in locating the origin of lameness. Backed by 20 years of gait analysis research, the “Q” uses three sensors placed in key points on your horse to track their movement. The millimeter difference in your horse’s stride may not be visible to the human eye but is tracked and quantified on a hand-held device for our Practitioners at the appointment.
Once sensors have been accurately placed, our practitioners observe and track their data from your horse while on the lunge line and in hand. By measuring the head and pelvis in conjunction with the stride timing through the pastern sensor, it can pinpoint the origin of lameness. This is done by using the asymmetric weight-bearing pattern of a lameness as it is occurring; whether at impact, mid-stance, or push-off.
Early Detection and Year-Long Care
Our veterinarians routinely use the Equinosis system at rechecks to monitor your horse’s progress following a lameness exam. Being able to follow quantitative changes in your horse's gait throughout a season helps us detect small problems and correct them before they turn into a season-ending issue. Additionally, we can track changes from one season to the next to keep your horse sound and comfortable year after year.
